The best almost free program for downloading music that i use all the time is K-lite Pro. For a one time fee which is cheap as hell, you get unlimited download access to anything from mpegs, wmv, mp3, mp4, avi and jpegs you want. Just make sure you read the instructions on how to allow your connection to be fully capable of all access to all 3 main sources of downloads. So far i've downloaded over 1200 songs from the program and i only paid about $15 if i remember right.
