How do I extend the amount of time displayed on my timeline? My clips are so small that I can't extend their time any because the two opposite facing red arrows to do so with, won't come up…. Help.

I think you should add audio to your timeline. I mean the long audio such a mp3. and you will get the long timeline.
Actualy i don't understand why you want to extend their timeline?
maybe you want to put the credit at the back.. sorry i think my answer will not satisfy to you. maybe you can edit your question with more detail what are you going to do..
But there is no other option for you to extend the timeline if you using Window Movie Maker..
You may use Cyberlink power director or pinnacle.. here you can use the option to extend the timeline..
