The other answers aren't exactly helpful.
Here are some tips:
1) Have a good firewall and anti-virus. Try using Ad-Aware free for the anti-spyware and virus protection.

And try AVG for free anti-virus.

2) If you download songs, make sure they are not under 1 mb. Songs aren't usually scams either, so you don't really have to worry.
3) If you download videos, don't download .mov files. Those can have attached spyware and open up internet links to adult sites. Videos that have .avi .mpg .mpeg things like that.. those are alright. With those, just download and see if it's what you wanted. If not, just delete them. Nothing you can do about that. Remember, .mov files are what harm your computer.
4) Images, those are fine lol.
5) When downloading programs from Limewire, Frostwire or any p2p software, those are what can be really dangerous. Try to refrain from downloading files off programs like that especially .exe files. Resort to getting them off respectable sites or from anywhere else.
Well, hope I helped =]

Stick to songs only…no videos or documents…AND when you search, pick the highest folder (limewire) because most people have that song…which means its probably safe
