Ok, I convert and play video files, the files I use are usually AVI, MPEG and WMV files. But I also play most of the popular formats too.

I've tried a few codec packs, I usually use the K-Lite Codec Pack, but for some reason something in it does not work well with Vista and the software ends up crashing.

I've tried using a few of the more popular ones and I'm currently using Cole2k Media Codec Pack 6.1.0 which up until yesterday was working ok. Everything was fine until I opened a WMV file and on the bottom and through the middle it was green. I've played this video before and it is fine.

Any ideas why it did this and any suggestions for a good codec pack?

I use Vista.

Thanks.

Answer:
It's a problem with the codecs. You can use a superior media player like VLC or MPlayer or install the Advanced Vista Codec Pack. Freeware multimedia for Vista is not mature yet.

Answer:
Does the 'Cole2k' Media Codec Pack 6.1.0 have the compatible Vista sign? If not, it isn't compatible with your operating system. You could also try reverting some drivers back. Have you updated any recently?
