I've located my archived mail but it has a .pst file name. Everytime I click on it to open a window appears that asks me to choose a program to open it with. I tried sending the file to outlook but when I did and clicked on it in Outlook to open it I received a message stating it was not able to do so. So can anyone help? I'm at work and need to access some mail I sent a few months ago. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide!

Answer:
Eric is correct, .pst file extensions relate to the Outlook Personal Folder file.

I have an easier way of doing it, and more importantly, this method was designed with the sole intention of loading the .pst file into Outlook.

Open Outlook, click File, then highlight Open. You will see the third option in the list is "Outlook Data File…".

Select that, and browse to the file location. Simple!

You can contact me if you have any problems, if you wish.

Answer:
A .pst file is an Outlook personal folder file. However, I don't believe you can just double click the file in Explorer and choose Outlook as the program with which to open it. You have to actually open Outlook, select Import from the File menu, and import the contents of the file into Outlook that way. Selecting Import will open a wizard that will guide you through the import process, allowing you to select the file to import from and the folder in Outlook to which you want to import.
