I currently have the free versions of Zone Alarm Firewall and AVG Antivirus programs running on my XP. Are these programs good enough? thanks for your input

Answer:
Zonealarm Free edition did not do very well on the current firewall leak tests on http://www.matousec.com/, a trusted security softwares testing website. All of these tests are done on a Windows XP comp & therefore you don't have to worry about the accuracy of them. On the other hand, AVG Free Edition is currently one of the best free anti-virus application that offers frequent updates and solid anti-virus detection engine so I believe you're making a right decision using AVG. However, I recommend you to switch from Zonealarm to Comodo Firewall Pro since it's a very robust firewall that offers excellent protection for your computer by monitoring in/out connections n allowing advance users to create their own set of various rules to change the behaviors of the firewall, enhancing maximum protection. The software is completely free with no limits whatsoever. In addition, you should also download and use Kaspersky Online Scanner to make sure your AVG isn't missing anything. Kaspersky has the industry leading anti-virus engine and I'm sure you'll enjoy using it.

Answer:
yes

Answer:
Yes… and no. Its always good to have multiple Anti-viruses (AVG Also acts as a firewall) but Zone Alarm and AVG seem alright.

What you're missing is spyware/malware protection.

Spybot: Search and Destroy and Ad-aware are decent programs to get, but there are more out there.

Answer:
A good spy-ware program doesn't hurt.

Answer:
Yes, most of the time you cant double up on anti virus, so you may want to a some type of spyware removal as well.

Answer:
You need a spyware program, try 'Spyware Doctor'. It's available for free in the google pack. http://pack.google.com

Otherwise it's all good.

Answer:
Never install more than one anti virus, as they may conflict with each other. On the other hand, is always good to use more than one anti spyware.

Both of these are free.
