Computer question?

Author: admin

Ok, I don't really know what I'm talking about here as I don't really understand computers and techincal speak! We have a computer at home which we have had for a year. We installed some kind of anti-virus software (don't ask me what it is I have no idea!) and everytime we turn on the computer it comes up with a message to say *XXX* is trying to connect. It is colour coded so a lilac is ok to accept, orange isn't too bad but red comes up as suspicious behaviour which we always deny access to. Unfortunately my husband, (who is more clueless than me!) accepted a suspicious behaviour message yesterday so we turned the computer off straightaway. Are we at risk from any viruses at all?

Answer:
This is most likely your anti virus/firewall asking if the program is allowed to run. If you don't recognise the program don't allow, if its a program you use on a regular basis click allow and tick the check box to always allow access (saves going through the process again and again). Unfortunately your PC often runs lots of small programs to complete one task (especially when viewing webpages etc). Active x Adobe, and Java are examples of this and are harmless. If your worried do a virus scan on your machine and all external storage. Be careful of the high risk ones as they usually dodgy. If in doubt don't allow!…..

Answer:
sounds like you got hit from a porn site XXX run a virs scan see if that helps

Answer:
Those pop-ups aren't actually your anti-virus software. They are your firewall asking you if a program can "dial" out. If it's an unknown program click no. If you have these every time you connect try downloading Adaware and running it. If you accepted something bad the anti-virus if installed should have caught it.

Answer:
i think you have spyware now

get you a reputable security suite….and install it

you can get a free trial at http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symn…

Answer:
sounds so, I cannot say "this is it" all I can advise is 1.) restore computer to eairler save point. 2.) Run Antivirus in "safe mode". 3.) save important pictures, music, documents, to a cd or usb drive, then just start over.

Answer:
Your Firewall service shields your computer from unauthorized intrusions, malicious hackers, and other hostile access attempts.

It also gives you control over which programs can access the Internet.

If a program tries to establish an Internet connection, and if no firewall rule exists for the program, your Firewall service displays the Allow/Block dialog box. The program cannot access the Internet until you click Allow or Block.

hope this helps you,, good luck

Answer:
Yes, you are at risk from a spyware, adware, trojan or virus infection because you've allowed a suspicious application to do something to your computer. What you should do now is to download a good free anti-malware software from the net to scan for and undo any harmful changes made to your computer. Also I would recommend you to download Comodo Firewall Pro as this is the best firewall protection you can get at no cost. Make sure you've already deactivated Windows built-in Firewall via Security Center or Control Panel > Administrative tools and select "Basic firewall protection" when installing Comodo. This would give no pop-ups and therefore making it easier 4 u to use.

Download this from:

Other highly recommended softwares for beginners are:

AVG Free Edition with frequent updates, reliable anti-virus engine plus a user-friendly interface.

Spyware Blaster prevents harmful softwares from being installed on computer with easy n effective immunization feature.

~finally, remember to update and use security softwares to scan your computer at least once a week.

Answer:
The message " *XXX* is trying to connect" probably means your computer system is asking you for permission to run the program. This message could be a result from the anti-virus program installed.

It's not safe to accept a message deemed suspicious by your anti virus program, nevertheless there is a possibility that your system is not at risk from viruses. If you accepted a common virus, your anti-virus program should give you some notification of the occurrence.

Your anti virus ought to be able to remove common viruses, but to be on the safe side, you may want to make sure you have the latest version of whatever anti virus program you are using. To do this, make sure you download updates to your anti virus program once they are available.

Also, here's something I find helpful to protect my computer privacy and Internet activity. You may want to install software to remove history files and traces of activity from your computer as these may be used by hackers to gain access to your computer system. Doing this will help keep you a little more protected even if you accidentally received a virus. You may find some helpful information on such software here: http://evidenceeraserreview.blogspot.com…

Hope this helps.
