Does anyone else have a concern about the new feature of Ad-Aware 2007 that auto updates? It seems weird to me that a "anti-spyware" company would configure their software in a way that leaves your computer open to abuse. What are your thoughts on this?
Is anyone using it right now, what do you think of it versus Ad-Aware SE?

I've ranted about that numerous times on here.
I've never seen such a resource hog for an *on-demand* antispyware! On my rig the aawservice.exe was eating about 24,000 KB just to sit there! And if you disable the service, it won't update… at all.
I was advising people to downgrade back to Ad-Aware SE from snapfiles.com, but I believe Lavasoft has stopped updating it 
But my final thought on both of the Ad-Aware free versions is that I wouldn't bother with either of them any more. Hell, I've never had either of them find anything other than tracking cookies and MRUs anyway. I've even heard people question if the real antispyware detection is disabled by default in the free versions.
Finally, there's no need for Ad-Aware when you can get Superantispyware and Spyware Doctor Starter Edition free.
(And as soon as Spybot gets v1.5.2 released, I'll start recommending it again.)

You're welcome. I agree that AA 2007 is a disappointment. But like I said, Spybot v1.5.2 is definitely going to fix some issues from v1.5.1.15 (most notable the slow open and the incomplete immunization issues), so it will be recommendable again soon.

Why would you think auto updating leaves your computer open to abuse? The anti virus programs all do that. I think it's good that it updates without you having to manually do it. This way if you forget, it's already done.

My son has the old version and I have the 2007 version and no problems in the past year! Think it is great! I have to update mine as well as my son's - why does yours Auto update?

Tried 2007 ,but got rid of it.
