I’m seriously infected with a pop up virus and IE shutdown virus and have installed and run Spyware remover program and paid for the subscription (seems to be a waste of money)….also my McAfee caught the virus but obviously it got through. Yes I installed Firefox but I still get the annoying Shut down popup for World wide web Explorer or a pop up with tabs opening up faster than I have the ability to click them off…..
So go I have to do a complete format and reinstall of XP or will a repair XP work? I hate to install all my programs and drivers again!
Also, will installing IE 8 stop this?
But I don't know how else to get rid of this virus? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I.e.8 will add to your troubles, dont do that. Find out what the name of the virus is and start up in safe made to remove it. Don't forget to remove all your cookies and temp files, if this doesn't get rid of it you might have to format and reinstall xp. You might find the virus/spywear in internet explorer files in the registry, have a peek in there to. hope this helps.
