New here, and I've seen just 3 pages and on two there was blatant advertising of products. One was even a hijacked version of a popular open source software program, Shareaza, which is freeware!!

By "here" I take it you mean Yahoo! Answers, and by "spyware and spam" I take you mean references to anti-malware packages.
What you're seeing isn't advertising, but best-guess advice. When it comes to handling malware, no one, and I mean NO ONE, has all the answers, or even most of them. The best we can do (and I'm one of the people doing it), is give some starting points, which often come down to the same handful of anti-malware packages: Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D, AVG, Avast, Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky and several other products I won't try to name because it's too easy to give the name of a rogue package by mistake.
There's no "advertising" going on because none of us have any stake in the products we've used and trust. The only real alternative is to give no advice at all.
