I need a virus scanner that’s free and also removes the infected or cleans it. I dont want trial or something that just scans…my computers been lagging lately and i rather solve it now than later. thnx.

Answer:
best one I can advocate is Avast (avast.com). It runs during the boot process, so it can eliminate viruses that most other anti-virus software will miss because they’ve something running during the time of scan. There's also AVG which is a good free one, and for spyware you can use SuperAntiSpyware.

Answer:
Everyone else has already listed my favourite scanner (AVG).

So I’ll now state this. If you change your operating system from windows to Linux you’ll not need a virus scanner. Nor will you ever have to pay for updates, and most software will be free.

Linux, made by the community, for the community =D

Yahoo AV seems to pick up stuff…as does McAfee…and they are free.

A lot of the free software isn’t actually free….it will tell you what your personal is infected with but you need to subscribe to get it removed…..

and since you seem to be new…If ever something pops up on screen warning you that computer is infected……hit ctl/alt/del….

AV downloads stuff and then tells you personal is infected….

with their files….

there is a thing going around called Antivirus 2008 or Antivirus XP2009.

very official looking….pops up from nowhere and starts scanning computer…..

tells you personal is infected…

of course it is ….with their files…

and attempts to extort 60 bucks from you to remove.

that thing pops up I hit ctl/alt/del….I don't even touch their CLOSE button…..

anyway…start with Yahoo AV…..and McAfee…they’re both free…and I use Zone alarm firewall…also free….

don't get carried away with downloading thisbot and antithatbot
