my brother passed away and him and my mother both had the same password and now she cannot remember it and there’s irreplacable information on the drive. is there any way to reset it?

Answer:
If you have an administrator account you can get the data from the drives without the need to login to the other user accounts (just navigate to their user folders, you might need to pass a UAC prompt). You can also change their password, although it is possible for them to lose some data (generally not any normal files on the disk though) if you do that.

Vista can create password recovery disks for you. I advocate that feature be used for anyone that’s likely to have difficulty remembering their password.

Answer:
restart the personal in safe mode

this site will show you how to get into safe mode

If the admin account needs a password, try typing default. If that gets you access into the account then go to

control panel,

then user accounts

and remove passwords from the other accounts. If all else fails, Vista should still be under warranty, call Microsoft and have them walk you through it.

Answer:
I'd see a good computer technitian. one with a good reputation. Windows couldn't make it so that there’s NO way of getting the info bak. you might be able to ring windows
