If u have a incensed windows OS then this is a worthwhile anti spyware because it is very light on resources, scans fast and as a free anti spyware is one of the few that you could set automatic scans on - i've been using this (resident) with spybot spyware blaster (manual) and i have zero spyware turning up ever since!
Answer:
Windows Defender is an antispyware software, not an Antivirus. You'll need an additional Antivirus software for your computer.
There are three websites that offers free, safe, and legal
anti-virus software:
(detection rates were based from the recent On-Demand and Retrospective Tests from http://www.av-comparatives.org )
Avira (strong detection rates but high false alarms, strongly recommend if you're an advance user):
http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php
Avast! (fair detection rates, multiple shields such as web, IM, P2P Shields):
http://www.avast.com
AVG (fair detection rate, easy for novice users but recommend other more advance anti-virus softwares if you're more computer-saavy):
http://www.grisoft.com/
Recently, Windows Defender is lacking a high detection rate so I also reommend other antispyware software that are also free and safe such as:
AVG Anti-spyware (highly recommend if you're using AVG Anti-virus for a solid protection but any other anti-virus softwares can work with AVG Anti-spyware (use to be ewido anti-spyware:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
SuperAntispyware Home Free edition (Powerful anti-spyware and simple and easy to use for novice users)
http://www.superantispyware.com/
(Note you may still use Windows Defender along with other antispyware softwares that I stated above).
