I had the same problem when i was playing games i kept get pop-ups and man does it get annoying so i set out destroy the pop-ups because i learned what was causing them
Download SUPERantipyware free
http://www.superantispyware.com/superant…
it gets rid of the tough stuff that the others can't handle.
Scan and if the pop-ups keep coming scan in safemode.
Trust me doing a system restore doesn't do !@#$ to the pop-ups.
Vundofix
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/…
this app gets rid of pop-ups and the vundo virus
If SUPERantispyware didn't work than download this tool
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p…
the link will show you how to use the applaction
SmitfraudFix is a free tool that S!Ri created to remove fake anti-spyware programs. It can be risky so they cannot guarantee the result. Please use it with reservations. I would never recommend to purchase anything unless it’s necessary. That’s why they produce this free removal process.

You don't need to block pop-ups when not using a browser… because there aren't any! Unless.. you could be using Microsoft Windows. That old thing gets ripped by spyware and adware all the time. Pretty poor show, really. It needs all sorts of bolt-ons security products to keep its clunky engine running… and of course anything good needs to be paid for! Sophos and McAfee make good money selling their stuff, so give them a try.
Answer:
I would guess that this could be spyware or a virus. I would suggest that you run some scans and see if you can fix this problem.
Good luck!

Answer:
That's adware, and it has nothing to do with your browser.
I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D (they’re free), install them, update them and run them. If either one doesn’t seem to be able to get rid of everything it reports finding, try running it again in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents malware from protecting itself.
Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.
To get into Safe Mode:
1. Log out and reboot your machine.
2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3. Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.
4. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance.
5. When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
Update and run them all regularly.
Good luck.
