this thing is a real pain. it has an imitation norton shield here, and keeps popping in and telling me about security threats if i don't buy it, blah blah you know the deal. i emailed the company, but who knows when/if they tell me how to get rid of it. any ideas are greatly appreciated. charlie

Phony alerts or "balloon" pop-ups about a virus infection and the attempt to sell you some useless software to "fix" the problem usually indicates that your computer has a Smitfraud infection. DO NOT BUY THE PRODUCT THEY TRY TO SELL YOU!
Sounds like your computer may have a variant of this ubiquitous Smitfraud infection. Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove it compleatly.

There is no sense in e-mailing that "company". Most of this type of crap originates from organised internet crime gangs out of Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Russia,etc). And often uses un-regulated servers in China.

If you know the name of the bug use the search engine on your PC to hunt for it. And then manually dump it if you find it.

Use some other software. Norton, AVG , Avast are free Antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/Antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

The program has had enough time to learn to hide from Norton before it could detect it. Virus Heal is a fake anti-spyware, and it is caused by a form of Smitfraud
