Does limewire really cause viruses?

Some of the downloads can be Trojans, viruses, spam, or whatever else. I used Lime until one file tried to toast my machine. Advice? Get some major protection before you begin dumping alien files into your system. Better safe to the point of paranoia than having to shop a new machine because of a freebie mp3.

So yess it does. But if you have the right virus protection and spware stuff then you can get by

you'll just have a slow computer after a couple of weeks and people will be looking at your personal files

limewire itself will not give you viruses, only the files that you download from it. ive had limewire for over a year and i use it all the time and it never gave my computer a virus.

There is a 50/50 % of a chance you will get a virus. It really depends on what you download. Take it to a download directory and virus scan that directory before you click on or open the files.
