I want to create a website layout on photoshop by creating slices however, what would be a good size for the overall document? I want it to be compatible on most computers but I'm not exactly sure what size it should be. If you have any answers, could you please explain why? Thanks in advance!
Answer:
Well if your speaking about the width of the site, you have a couple of things to consider. Many people around the world still use a screen resolution of 800×600, in which case you should try setting a width of about 780px. However, everything is moving to better resolutions, and I would say a good standard now is about 900px (that's the average I use on my sites.
If you are talking about page weight (total file size) many will tell you that you need to be at 60 - 75kb. Me however, I like graphically enhanced pages and will typically settle for up to 150kb - 175kb. I hav'nt had any complaints.
Good luck!
