How to begin wordpress?

Author: admin

OH MAN… I've spent at least 2 hours trying to figure out how to use Wordpress to make a blog. I downloaded v. 2.3.3 but don't know PHP, nore do I have a domain name or web host.

Any sort of step by step beginner process would be the best because I am a noob. I looked at the Wordpress instructions and all it did was confuse me more… so please don't suggest that.

Your reply would be VERY VERY VERY appreciated!

Thank you.

Answer:
Wordpress.com is a hosted Wordpress blogging platform that doesn't require a domain name of hosting. (It is like blogger.com.)

Wordpress.org has the open source code that you have to install on your hosting. It requires access to MySQL data base. You will need to have hosting that has MySQL hosting.

I use http://www.WebTechTips.com/gator for my hosting needs. They have a nice installer called Fantastico that will make installing your wordpress a breeze.

STEPS:

1. Get a domain name from godaddy.com

2. Go to http://www.WebTechTips.com/gator and buy a baby account using the domain name you just bought.

3. Go back to godaddy and set up the DNS with the name servers for your new hosting

4. Go into the CPanel for your hosting and click on Fantasticao and install Wordpress on your domain.

5. Voila! You now have a Wordpress blog on your domain.

If this sounded like gibberish, just set up an account at www.wordpress.com. It is a walk in the park and has a lot of nice features.

If you want to learn how to install Wordpress on your domain, then go to http://www.MyInternetTutor.com and watch for a video coming soon on this topic.

Answer:
First of all, in order to use wordpress you need a webhosting account that offers:

PHP

Mysql database

The ability to upload to your site.

You could do this on your local machine, but then you need to install apache, php and mysql.

Get a domain name. The domain name will need to be pointed to webspace that you buy. (I know of no free services that allow you databases.)

Once you have a website, you need to setup a database. You do this by going thru your control panel usually. You give it a username, password and database name. Then you give permissions to the database user.

Then, you upload the wordpress files to your webspace, then you follow the wordpress instructions. Then wordpress is installed.

Hostgator.com offers good plans for a good price:

You could also sign up at http://wordpress.com where the wordpress software is already installed, you just sign up and get a name like yourname.wordpress.com.
