Yeah, I'm strapped for cash. I’ve a gamer Personal computer that has been just sitting around gathering dust since I went off to college. It's about 4 and 1/2 years old now and seeing as how I'm strapped for cash, I thought I would sell it. The specs are listed, I just would like an estimate for how much this computer would sell and where it would be best to sell it. I thought about eBay, but is there anyplace better?

This machine is custom built, meaning I built it myself when I was a sophomore in high school. It's a solid machine. I just need to clean it up a bit and format the hard drives. Also, once I format the hard drives, should I reinstall Windows XP or should I leave them blank? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Computer Hardware:

Motherboard - Gigabyte mobo (can't remember the chipset but it is Intel) socket 775, gigabit lan, usb2.0, 5.1 surround sound

RAM - 1GB DDR3200 400MHz

Processor - Pentium 4, 3.0 GHz hyperthreaded socket 775 (lists as 2 processors in windows)

Graphics card - nVidia 6600 with 256MB onboard vram PCI-e

Hard Drives - 2, 250GB SATA hard drives that are either Seagate or WD

Sound Card - Creative Labs 5.1 Surround Sound Blaster card

CD and Floppy Drives - 52x CDRom and a Light Scribe DVD burner (so 2 drives) and a multi-card reader (floppy and several different memory cards for cameras and the like)

The case is a gamer case. Clear side, front USB, lights up. Ideal part is the handle on top for mobility to gamer celebrations. It's a solid system and has run games like Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 without many problems. So, that's it. I would really like an estimate. I'm sorry I can't be more specific on the parts. I don't have all of my documentation with me, but when I do sell, I’ll be very specific about what somebody is buying. Thanks.

Answer:
If I was going to buy it I wouldn't want to pay any more than $250 honestly.

It's no longer a gaming personal because it can't do a lot of modern stuff let alone touch modern games on reasonable settings, even ones that are like 2 years old.

The biggest factor is the 1GB of DDR 400 RAM. That's not much, and it's slow. It makes the rest of the computer look worse than it is, because it could do lightweight gaming and average work really well still, but won't be able to multitask overly well.

$300 would be generous. I'd state if you got more than $250 people were losing out.

EDIT: Gonzo, Vista would NOT run on that machine. 1GB of DDR at 400MHz? Please lol. It'd be suicide.

Don't install XP again though, keep the copy for yourself. Make sure people realize that they’re buying a personal without the OS.

Not only do you not want people getting your key (you can only have 1 key used to activate the copy of XP at a time. So two people can't use it at the same time. Save the copy for yourself, you never know when you might need an extra OS, and XP is still rather expensive.

Answer:
Around 200 with the OS 150 without. Can purchase a new personal with monitor kb and mouse for 350 nowadays. If youre gonna wipe the drives and sell it without the OS make sure you do a government wipe(low level format that writes 0s across the whole drive) of the drives and not just a standard format.

Answer:
probably around $300 ?
(i know..lame…but people are cheap)
and i would definitely install xp back on it…
a lot of people wouldn't know what they're doing, or might not have a copy…
if they don't want it on, they could just re-format and put on vista (ew)

Answer:
Well if you wanted positive criticism, i can honestly tell you those parts, although only about 4 years old, would be like 10 years old in terms of how fast computer hardware progresses. Anyway i would estimate anywhere from $250-$300 depending what kind of condition everything is in and a number of other factors.

Answer:
A couple of hundred bucks - personal have horrible resale value because they improve so rapidly - now that core 2 duo types are so cheap, a pentium 4 just isn't worth anything. You might as well pull one of those hard drives and keep it, 2 won't get you more money for the whole system than 1.
