Iam a college senior andI have an Hp that I just bought in Sept. I love it, but I also just bought an ibook to see if I would like the mac OS in general. I do, I like the fact that i can put windows on it. (That's true right?) If true, does that mean that It will be like a regular windows laptop in a macbook? And I do like the small design. My question is should I go ahead and get the macbook or stick with my hp? What would be my advantages? Thanks
Answer:
Yes, you can run mac OS and Windows, but you have to purchase a copy of Windows XP or Vista for the mac (expect $100-$250, depending on which version you want). You will partition your hard drive so that one partition runs mac OS and the other runs XP or Vista. That also means, however, that the programs on one side won't run on the other, and vice versa. There are plenty of people who use macs for windows stuff, but you do need to be moderately computer literate (or have a friend who is) to set all of this up.
I have an HP and I've been helping a business set up 6 new Macs with dual operating systems. It is a little challenging to have a Mac running Windows because it seems that inevitably whatever we need on the Mac side is on the windows side and vice versa. If I were personally choosing, I would go either all mac or all windows, but not try to mix the two.
Mac vs HP? That's probably a personal preference. The screens on both HP and Mac are great.

Well i know this probably doesn't help, but a HP is the best kind of laptop you can buy in terms of being hardwearing and stronger, but is it better than the macbook? i dont know, they do seem very new, a little to new to know!
Answer:
I bought my HP in John Lewis Kingston and the sales guy offered to change it to mac for me as a private job for £200. So I guess to can go both ways

A college senior spending money on yet another computer? So you seek to replay a HP laptop with an MacBook for style?
You do have the cash for this computer? May I suggest that you partion the HP laptop and install LINUX on it. You may like to learn the underpinnings of Mac OS. UBANTU, SuSE, or RedHat would provide you a good LINUX desktop to learn from.
I would encourage you to save your money and to actually use a program to make your budget and track your spending. I like GNUCash.
Answer:
You have both! Great! Well there are less viruses and malware written to attack a Mac and Mac program.! There is that reason.
Many more programs are written to use on the IBM programs.
Tough choices.. I don't have that problem.. just an HP.
But I can tell you this, Laptops are built to fail after about a few years of manipulating the top to open and close repeatedly. Eventually it breaks the wire harness between the cover and the keyboard. And if you have to get that fixed by someone else other than yourself, it will cost you dearly!
But if you are the kind of person who can throw good money after bad and get away with it, why not have both? lol
Answer:
well, you have to run a windows emulator which may be tricky (i've never done)
if i were you i would throw away the hp (complete crap along with gateway, dell, and compaq) and get the mac. (i love windows and i'm recommending it).
viruses are non existant. however mac replacement hardware can be expensive if bought from the manufacturer.
mac pro: viruses, "horse power", ability to emulate windows xp(etc), nice graphic interface, stability, not to mention the hardware is all made by apple so its not mixed like an hp.
pc pro: expandability, ability to find inexpensive replacement hardware, wider availability of games and software.
if i were you i'd buy a nice mac, msi (PC), ibm (PC), or vaio (PC, especially since viao makes ps3).
Answer:
You can run Windows on a MAC by adding some software. Two that I know of are Backpack and Parallel. If the cost of the MAC is not a problem, then you might like it. MAC is all about style, in my opinion. The HP is a good machine and will work very well for you. The main advantage of any PC over MAC is price. In some cases you may find that some software is only made for PC, but most of the basic stuff looks exactly the same on both platforms.
Answer:
Depends on what you use your laptop for. If all you need is a word processor and a web browser, go for the one that you feel most comfortable using.
However, if you need the ability to use a wide range of software applications, Windows based systems provide the largest selection of software alternatives and hardware configurations.
Unless you intend to land a job in the professional publishing field - newspaper, magazine, etc. - a Windows based PC is more likely to be fully integrated with your professional environment.
