Why does everyone think the answer to a question like this is to get another browser??? Let's deal with this one, shall we?

I have the ability to think of two possibilities:

– It's damaged.

– It's been attacked.

The solution to the first one is to go to your Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and try a repair install:

– Look for Microsoft Internet Explorer in the list.

– Highlight it and click on Add/Remove.

– Select “Repair World wide web Explorer” and click OK.

Let it run through and respond to anything it asks you to do. If that doesn't work, then uninstall it totally and use Ccleaner to clean your registry and then try reinstalling it. Don't forget to make a backup copy of your Favorites folder before uninstalling.

– Download and install it.

– Open it and click on Registry.

– Ask it to scan for problems.

– Ask it to repair all problems.

– Back up when suggested.

– Repeat process until no issues are found.

For the second possibility, try this thorough guide to cleaning a computer:

Make sure you install full security protection afterwards. You can get everything you need to protect your computer without needing to pay for it. Check the downloads are at Major Geeks for more software:

Internet Explorer is more vulnerable to attack than Firefox but with adequate security on your personal, you shouldn't have much of a problem. I frequently use IE6 on a laptop that can't be upgraded past 98SE due to being unable to upgrade a hardware component, and I don't run into problems. However, it would be superior to use Firefox where possible but there are features that Firefox doesn't have that IE does. Also, these people often overlook the fact that you’ve to have IE because some sites will only work if you have IE. You can get around this in Firefox with some of them by using the IE plugin for Firefox but not all sites.
