I used to use Ares for downloading files. Then i heard about Bittorent, then heard about torrents.
The whole thing is confusing. Whats the difference between Ares P2P website and bittorent website? What’s a rar.file and why cant i open one?
Also what is a seeder and a leecher?
i found it easier to download from bittorents and use stuff like the pirate bay, and mininova but.. still dont many answers to my questions.
any body else know?

Don't worry, I ran into the same trouble when I first started using torents and such. I am probably not the best person to answer your question, but I'll give u some of the basics.
Someone who is downloading a file is a leecher and someone who is uploading a file for download is a seeder. When I download a file I am a leecher, however, once its finished I become a seeder. Programs like Azureus and others automatically start uploading the file so others can download faster.
A rar file is similair to a zip file, its just a compressed file. The way to open it is to download the rar extracting program. It's free and I think if you just google “rar” you will find a program.
But back to the torents, I am honestly not sure the difference between Ares P2P and torrents like those offered on mininova, but torrents usually work better because everyone who is downloading the file is also uploading, and the more people uploading the superior your download will be.

.rar files are a type of archive, similar to zip files. A program called winrar is used to extract them. www.win-rar.com Other programs can do it too.
A seeder is someone who has a complete file and is sending it out to other people on the same torrent stream/p2p site. A leecher is in general someone who takes a file but does not upload it when they are done.
Bittorrents and P2P clients like Kazaa, and I’m assuming Ares(I have never used it) work on different principles. Mainly, torrents are split into many different pieces and are sent out by many different users, you do not have to have a complete file to send it out to others. With p2p, you usually have a one on one connection and the file is sent in one piece, you usually need the full file to send it to others.

P2P means person to person. This is a file directly downloaded from one to another. Torrents, however, are just mere instructions from downloading from a central source. In other words, you use a TORRENT CLIENT to open a TORRENT to download massive files. Seeders are people with the information you are requesting, and leechers are the people downloading the file.

Rar file is a file thats been shrunk basically. Just use pirate bat type in winrar and download that. Once thats installed u can open them then.
