on how to do this. what to buy, compatabilty drivers etc

thanks

Answer:
Go out and purchase a retail boxed network card. It will come with drivers and instructions…

The only decision you have to make is what sort of expansion socket are you plugging it into on your Personal computer. It will probably be PCI but it might be ISA… it depends what your Computer came equipped with and what else is using the expansion slots.

Open the Computer up, have a look for an expansion socket that’s empty… they're the ones that line up behind one of the removable plates on the back of the case. If the socket is white and about 3 inches long it's PCI. If it's black and about 4-5 inches long it's ISA. Go purchase the right card!

Though… if you need an ISA card, it's an old (obsolete) standard so you may not find one in the dealers.

Anticipate to pay 10-20 pounds / dollars

Answer:
You should be able to go to most any computer store and purchase an internal ethernet card for $10 to $20. If your Computer is only 6 yrs old, it should have PCI slots in it. Just make sure that card you purchase is PCI. NOT PCI Express!. If windows xp does not recognize it on boot, the card should come with a cd with drivers on it.
