i found out that my wireless card will never work with linux and I want XP back. how do i check if its there? and then how do i get to it if it is there?
Answer:
you probably formatted the drive when you installed Linux … which means if you haven't got a recovery set of discs … you'll need to go buy XP and download all your drivers and start from scratch
Edit*
If you don't get the option to boot into both XP and Linux when the machine starts … you've lost XP for good
You may be able to hit F10 or F12 (I can't remember which it is) to start the Recovery program but that's a longshot

Unless you setup the linux install for dual boot then your xp was wiped clean from the machine. Your inspiron notebook should have come with a system restore cd. Use that to reinstall windows. If you don't have one, you can contact dell and pay for them to ship you a cd.
Which version of linux did you install? I have personally used ubuntu linux on my gateway laptop and it recognized my wireless card. I used the "Gutsy" version for desktop.
Answer:
if u didnt delete the partition its on u should be able to get it going again .. im not a spert on linux but i would say slave the drive into another machine and look at the partitions in an app like partiton magic and set it active or unhide it .. edit the boot.ini .. delete the one linux is on .. whatever the case may be ..
Answer:
Never is a mighty long tme. I have installed Ubuntu on two different Dell Laptops (one an inspiron 8500) and the wireless worked.
www.google.com "linux wireless inspironmodel" will probably get your specific instructions on what to do to get the wireless working. The right distro might id the wireless properly and work automatically.
