We just recently set up shared documents then disabled it and deleted the things inside a workgroup. My roommate told me both our computers are hooked up to a router but I'm not sure if there's anyway to check if someone's a network admin. I think he recently changed his xp User to "Administrator" so I'm a little suspicious. I thought that was one of the steps to set up hidden admin domains and viewing of another computer. Is there any way to check for a LAN administrator, hidden admin, network admin? Hope this is clear. I just want internet on same router, NO other sharing. no Admins.
There are two names under 'my computer,' 'manage' 'groups,' then 'administrators,' one is his user name, Administrator, and then my user name. I checked the same thing on his computer and ONLY his name is on there. What does this mean? Can I disable/disconnect it if he's admin. How do I tell if I am in a domain, and how do I get out or delete it?
Answer:
Try and change some things on your computer that would fall under the administrators role in a group. If your computer comes up with the message 'that option can only be changed by the administrator' then he has left himself in charge of your computer and you need to have this changed since this is NOT what you want…..The rest of the questions I will have to check my "book for Dummies" and edit in or email you with further info

From what you are saying it appears to me he has set himself up as the administrator on your computer. Did he set up the network? If so he may have done it so the networking could not get messed up accidentally since he did not put an administrator on his. He is the only one that can change it as I am sure you have to have a password to get into it. I know how to by pass it but it would be better to see if he did not do it to protect the network setup. Talk to him.

If you're wondering who has what type of account you can open control panel and double click user accounts. This will display the names of users and administrators on you computer. If this computer was set up by someone other than yourself, it is almost sure that that someone is the administrator. You can make yourself an administrator if you choose, in the user accounts section mentioned above. Just click "change an account". Then click the name of the account, yours, rgwn click change account type, there are two options. If you're not already listed as administrator all you have to do is click the "administrator" radio button, the other type is "limited" which you may be. If this is the case you will not be able to change yours to administrator.
As far as not wanting shared info (ie, personal stuff), all you have to do is right click on your personal folders and click security. Then click the users you wish to not have access and click the remove button. However, you must have an administrator account. You can email me if you have more questions on this. I'd be glad to walk you through the Whole thing.
